sam kusnetz, a native new yorker, has been designing, composing, photographing, filming, stage managing, and solving all manner of theatrical challenges for over twenty five years. he's toured nationally and internationally with acclaimed physical theater companies imago theater and do jump!, designed sound off-broadway at classic stage company, the working theater, the new victory, the duke on 42nd street, and the mint theater, and regionally at the lyric theater of oklahoma, bucks county playhouse, the actors theater of louisville, provincetown theater, third rail repertory theatre, and portland center stage where he earned a drammy award for his design of one flew over the cuckoo's nest. at brown university, his alma mater, he designed sound for many plays including the world premiere of jordan harrison's kid simple.
on broadway, he was the associate sound designer for the hills of california at the broadhurst theater, mary jane at MTC's samuel friedman theater and the price at roundabout's todd haimes theater, and one of the assistant sound designers on jefferson mays' a christmas carol at the nederlander theater. he also helped bring the sound designs of the acclaimed is this a room and dana h. to life at the lyceum theater as the spatial sound programmer.
as an associate and assistant designer, he's worked with leah gelpe, joshua d. reid, hidenori nakajo, lee kinney, mikhail fiksel, daniel kluger, matt stine, rob milburn & michael bodeen, bray poor, david van tieghem, bart fasbender, and darron west. he's consulted on sound system designs at lincoln center's claire tow theater and the pershing square signature center.
adjacent to his work in the theater, he works at figure 53, the maker of qlab, and at buck's rock camp, a summer arts program for teenagers. he's also the creator of theatrical tool maker team sound, and a proud member of united scenic artists, the union of professional theatrical designers and scenic artists.
sam lives in the beautiful hudson valley with his wife alana, their daughter elanor, and their dog rocket.
